Boracay - the Philippines

Boracay, one of the most beautiful island’s in the world...

Boracay boasts one of the world’s finest beaches - White Beach, a broad 3.5 kilometer stretch of sun-drenched sand, bathed by a white capped strip of perpetually turquoise water. At Nu Nu Noos you are fortunate to be ideally located at the center of White Beach, conveniently situated to all the main activities. Boracay’s pure white beaches are a sun worshipper’s heaven on earth. Just lazing under the tropical sun is a favorite vacation pastime.

Diving in Boracay

White Beach runs almost the entire length of the western side of the island. During the summer season ( December till July ) White Beach is the leeward shore which results in calm, turquoise seas, ideal for frolics in its warm water to cool off from the summer’s tropical heat. During this period the opposite, eastern side, forms the windward shore, with almost continuous blustery breezes and choppy seas ideal for the experienced wind surfer. The eastern shore also contains numerous sheltered and picturesque bays, rewarding the ardent walker with many great scenic views.

OVERVIEW
After a swim in the sea, you can engage in relaxing activities. Comb the beaches on horseback. Play an exciting game of volleyball. Get on an outrigger and sail to the other side of the island. Swim over to the floating bar and cool off with a cocktail. Or hop around one beach to another and enjoy the easy-going atmosphere.
After sunset, the island transforms into one exciting night of dancing and partying. But don’t take our word for it, Boracay is an island you have to experience yourself.

For many certified sun-worshippers the world over, paradise goes by the name Boracay. For indeed, many visitors have come back to Boracay year after tear. Some have even chosen to live in this paradise island.

Sheltered from the fierce easterly typhoons, Boracay can be found at the northwestern tip of Panay, in the west Visayas region, off the Sibuyan Sea. Boracay has managed to pack its thousand-hectare area with all the elements of a tropical paradise--crystal blue waters, powder white sand, liberal doses of tropical palms and flowering plants, and a healthy marine life underneath the seas.

Boracay is made up of three little communities: Yap in the north, Balabag in the middle, and Manoc- manoc in the south. Hilly elevations up to 100 meters above sea level characterize Yapak and Manoc-manoc. Intertwining trails link the small villages together but may sometimes lead to lush tropical jungles. Electricity and public transportation remain relatively scare.

Boracay would have remained a national secret if not far a few foreign travelers whom accidentally stumbled upon the place. Some say it was a movie crew, which spread word about Boracay to other sun worshippers. Other swear it was German traveler Jens Peters’ book, which included rare reviews about Boracay, that sent tourists on their way. Whichever tale is true, Boracay has become a melting pot for beach loceers. At any point in the islands, visitors can hear English, German and French spoken fluently. More importantly, visitors respect the serene quality of the place, and pay tribute to native Boracaynons by behaving according to local behavioral codes-which means no nudity, no fighting, and no loud commotion’s.

Not surprisingly, the culinary fare at Boracay is as diverse as the nationalities of its visitors. French, Australian, Belgian, German, Spanish and Thai-they’re all here side by side the native cuisine. Lending ample support to this virtual rainbow of fruit shakes: from sweet yellow mango, greens tart.

Boracay Sports and Activities:

Mountain Biking - Boracay is extremely scenic, with many challenging and varied routes around the island, some 25 kilometres long. Most of the routes are on loose dirt roads and steep climbs up to lookout points that give spectacular views across clear, blue waters to the distant islands. Then a steep drop down along single track paths through thick vegetation and native villages to another deserted beach. Cycling along these beaches at low tide is an exhilirating experience and then finally back through the coconut groves to the main beach. Rides may end with a long cool swim in the ocean.

Bike rentals are available at USD 2.00 per hour or USD 12.00 per day. For the serious biker we suggest that you bring your own bicycle. If it comes as extra baggage from Manila to Caticlan, the cost is minimal.

For longer two or three day trips the Nigi Nigi boat will take you to Caticlan on the island of Panay where the opportunities for adventurous cycling are unlimited.

Kayaking - The clear, blue waters are ideal for the novice. The rocky coast line and deserted sandy beaches can be reached within one half hour paddle. For the experienced and adventurous kayakers, Boracay can be circumnavigated in a day (a distance of approximately 20 kms) or neighbouring islands can be easily reached.
Two and three day camping trips down the coast of Panay, a large neighouring island, can be organized with accommodation in beach bungalows or camping right on the beach. There are good quality, challenging rapids for white water kayaking available only one hour from Caticlan and it is possible to organize trips that combine kayaking and mountain biking.

Good quality touring sea kayaks (Puffins) are available for rent on Boracay at the following rates :

Singles USD 8.00 per hour, USD 30.00 per day
Doubles USD 12.00 per hour, USD 32.00 per day

The best time for white water kayaking is July to November. Sea kayaking is good all year round although the rainy season is from July to November and it can be quite windy.

Windsurfing - Boracay is one of the best windsurfing locations in South East Asia. The winds blow fairly consistently all year but, of course, stronger during the rainy season. The Boracay Challenge Cup will be held from 11 to 17 January 1998.

It is also ideal for beginners because tthe first 600 metres out from the beach is only 1.5 metres deep and protected by a coral reef resulting in flat waters. There are a number of establishments renting top quality equipment with a good selection of board and sail sizes. Average costs are below.

Tennis - There are two good quality courts next to Nigi Nigi with flood lights for cooler evening games. They are nearly always available. Use of the court costs USD 4.00 per hour. There are reasonable quality rackets and balls available for a nominal rental fee.

Mountain climbing and Rainforest Trekking -
There are two mountains over 2000 metres high on the neighbouring island of Panay. Treks to these mountains can be arranged, or one can go trekking through the rain forests, passing through tribal villages on the way to spectacular waterfalls. There are excellent caves only one hour from Boracay for both the serious and novice caver. These caves are at least three kilometres in length.

Boracay GolfingGolfing - Enjoy a round of golf on a truly spectacular course situated in a lush tropical setting. The clear blue water of the South China Sea is visible from many vantage points on the course and there are wonderful views from the 19th hole of other islands in the Philippines archipelago.

Boracay GolfThis championship, eighteen hole, 6524 yard, par 72 golf course was designed by Graham Marsh.
