Yap, Micronesia

Yap lies just 9 degrees north of the Equator, 500 miles southwest of Guam, 300 miles to the northeast of Palau, 800 miles from the Philippines, and 4,000 miles from Gilligan’s Island. The eastern side of Yap is in the Pacific Ocean, while the western side of the island is in the Philippine Sea. Yap is one of the four states that comprise the Federated States of Micronesia, with Pohnpei, Chuuk (formerly Truk) and Kosrae being the other three. Yap is the westernmost of the states. Yap state consists of Yap Proper, where most of the hotels and dive shops are located, as well as numerous islands and atolls that extend 600 miles to the east, and one atoll about 80 miles to the south. These islands and atolls, being isolated in the vast ocean, are home to many species of pelagics, dolphins, whales, marlin, and many other deep sea creatures.

For more than 20 years, Yap Divers and Manta Ray Bay Hotel have been owned and
managed by Yap’s Dive Pioneer Bill Acker. He designed and built the resort specifically
for divers. Located along the waterfront on the lush, tropical island of Yap, our guests
enjoy the convenient diving through our PADI 5-star dive facility. We offer, international cuisine,
comfortable accommodations, a sparkling fresh water Infinity swimming pool, and
remarkable views of our tranquil Pacific Ocean lagoon.

The Yap Divers menu of dive sites is at 50 and growing. This includes exciting critter/macro dives,
which we have added to our wide-range of diving adventures. This includes hot go by areas,
rare nudibranchs and pipefish and the famous mating mandarinfish dive at Rainbow Reef.
And since this is Manta Ray Bay, every guest should have mantas on their must-see list.
Our dive guides take you right up to the action, where you can swim with the amazing
creatures as they glide by, seeming to fly through the underwater world.

Continental Micronesia is the only airline that services Yap, and flights are on Wednesdays from Guam, Palau, and Manila, and on Thursdays and Saturdays from Guam and Palau. As Guam is the "gateway" for entering the islands of Micronesia, traveling through Guam is a necessity in most cases. Other nearby cities are Manila, with regular flights to Koror, Palau and Hong Kong, with continuing flight service to Guam. For travelers with lots of time, the "Island Hopper" from Continental Micronesia leaves Honolulu and stops in most of the islands in Micronesia en route to Guam, and back again. A great way to see all of the major islands in Micronesia.
